According to the Los Angeles Times, Mel Gibson must attend AA meetings, perform public service announcements and pay $1,300 in fines as part of a plea agreement to resolve his drunk driving charges. An attorney for the actor/director made a "no contest" plea this morning in a Malibu courtroom, weeks before the actor was to be arraigned.

Gibson was not present.

The embattled star pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of driving with an alcohol level of .08 percent or above. As part of the deal, two other charges -- including driving with an open container of alcohol -- were thrown out.

Gibson's attorney, Blair Berk, said when it comes to misdemeanor cases, she usually comes to court sans her clients prior the scheduled date. She said in her 15 years of going to the Malibu courthouse, none of her misdemeanor clients have appeared.

The district attorney's office expressed satisfaction with the outcome and closure of the case.

"This was an appropriate outcome, which addresses all the public safety concerns of drinking and driving," D.A. Gina Satriano said in a statement.

According to the district attorney's office, the 50-year-old actor and director, who has a history of drinking issues, must attend AA meetings five times a week for 4.5 months, then three AA meetings per week for the remaining 7.5 months. By T.H. Gossip math, that's... a f*%king ton of meetings!

Gibson, who made headlines not only for his drunk driving, but for the odd and inflammatory tirade that followed, also must enroll in an alcohol abuse program for three months. In addition, Gibson must pay $1,300 in fines and his license will be restricted for 90 days.

The actor volunteered to do a public service announcement on the hazards of drinking and driving, and to immediately enter rehab, prosecutors said. Can they reverse his hatred for the wonderful Jews and gays in this world, though? We'll have to wait and see.
Following his arrest and embarrassing, hateful tirade, Mel Gibson has been officially charged with misdemeanor drunken driving, having an elevated blood-alcohol level and having an open container of liquor in his car.

A statement issued by Deputy District Attorney Ralph Shapiro says that the 50-year old actor was charged with one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or higher.

"Gibson was stopped about 2:09 a.m. Friday on Pacific Coast Highway after a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy allegedly observed him driving his 2006 Lexus LS at more than 85 mph. An open bottle of tequila allegedly was found in his car," the statement says.

He was released on Friday on his own recognizance, with an arraignment set for September 28 in Malibu, Calif., Superior Court, Division 3. Gibson is looking at up to six months in jail if convicted.

Poor guy. And, as if endangering the public, threatening police and spreading anti-semistism weren't enough for one week, Gibson is now being accused of homophobia as well. According to MSNBC, the actor made several anti-gay comments during a 1992 interview.

When Spanish newspaper El Pais asked Gibson about homosexuals in 1992, he reportedly shot back: "They take it up the a$$"."

Then, pointing at his rear end, he said, "This is only for taking a sh!t."

Classy. To make matters worse, Gibson then told the reporter that he was once worried that if he became an actor, people would think he was gay.

"But with this look, who's going to think I'm gay? It would be hard to take me for someone like that. Do I sound like a homosexual? Do I talk like them? Do I move like them?" Mel asked.

After some people were offended by his comments, Playboy magazine asked the actor in a future interview if he would apologize.

"I'll apologize when hell freezes over," was his response.

And when the Washington Post asked Gibson if he was a tolerant person?

"Ahhh, I like to think I am. Perhaps I'm not," he said.

So, in summation, Mel really doesn't like gay people or Jews. All he has to do now, Us Weekly slyly notes, is go on diatribe against plastic surgery and he'll officially have alienated everyone in Hollywood. Go for it, Mel! Why stop now?
Mel Gibson Drives Drunk, Swears Uncontrollably, Hates Jewish People, Threatens Cops, Tries to Break Sh!tThe blogging aficionados at TMZ.com have alerted the Gossip to the fact that Mel Gibson apparently went on a rampage Friday after being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, and that the Los Angeles police may have tried to cover up the extent of the actor's tirade.

According to the report filed by the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, Gibson freaked after being pulled over on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, Calif., and told he was going to be detained for drunk driving. The actor began swearing uncontrollably. Racial epithets were apparently thrown around like Paris Hilton at an all-night fraternity party.

"My life is f--ked," the Passion of the Christ director reportedly said.

Worried that Gibson might become violent, the deputy on the scene, James Mee, told the actor he would not be handcuffed as long as he cooperated. As the two stood next to the hood of the patrol car, the deputy asked Gibson to get inside, at which point Mel proclaimed "I'm not going to get in your car," and bolted to his own vehicle. The deputy quickly subdued Gibson, cuffed him and put him inside the patrol car.

The deputy taped the entire exchange between himself and Gibson, from the time of the traffic stop to the time Gibson was put in the patrol car, and that the tape fully corroborates the written report obtained by TMZ.

It gets better/worse. Once inside the car, Gibson began banging against the seat.

"You motherf--ker. I'm going to f--k you," he yelled.

The deputy, in the report, wrote that "Gibson almost continually [sic] threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me." The report also states that Gibson launched into a tirade of anti-Semitic statements, exclaiming "F--king Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy if he is Jewish.

The deputy became alarmed as Gibson's tirade escalated, and called ahead for a sergeant to meet them when they arrived at the station. When they arrived, a sergeant began videotaping Gibson, who noticed the camera and then said, "What the f--k do you think you're doing?"

Gibson then allegedly saw a female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?"

TMZ has been told that Gibson took two blood alcohol tests, which were videotaped, and continued saying how "f--ked" he was and how he was going to "f--k" the deputy who arrested him. He was then put in a cell with handcuffs on. He said he needed to urinate, and tried manipulating his hands to unzip his pants. Afraid Gibson was going to urinate on the floor of the cell, the deputy asked someone to take Gibson to the bathroom.

After leaving the bathroom, Gibson demanded to make a phone call, and was taken to a pay phone, where he began bashing the receiver against the phone when he didn't hear a dial tone. Gibson was warned that if he damaged the phone he could be charged with felony vandalism. Gibson was then asked, and refused, to sign the necessary paperwork, and was thrown in a detox cell.

Deputy Mee wrote an eight-page report detailing Mel Gibson's rampage and comments. Sources say the sergeant on duty felt the written report was inflammatory, especially given the current situation in Israel. It was mentioned several times that Gibson had incited "anti-Jewish sentiment" and "For a drunk driving arrest, is this really worth all that?"

Deputy Mee was then ordered to write a second report, leaving the comments about Jews out. Sources say he was told the sanitized report would end up in the media, and that he could file a supplemental report that contained the incendiary information, which would be locked in the commander's safe.

Initially, a Sheriff's official told TMZ the arrest occurred without incident. On Friday night, spokesman Steve Whitmore told TMZ:

"The L.A. County Sheriff's Department investigation into the arrest of Mr. Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence will be complete and will contain every factual piece of evidence. Nothing will be sanitized. There was absolutely no favoritism shown to this suspect or any other. When this file is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, it will contain everything. Nothing will be left out."

On Saturday, Gibson released the following statement:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said. Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
