Following his arrest and embarrassing, hateful tirade, Mel Gibson has been officially charged with misdemeanor drunken driving, having an elevated blood-alcohol level and having an open container of liquor in his car.

A statement issued by Deputy District Attorney Ralph Shapiro says that the 50-year old actor was charged with one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or higher.

"Gibson was stopped about 2:09 a.m. Friday on Pacific Coast Highway after a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy allegedly observed him driving his 2006 Lexus LS at more than 85 mph. An open bottle of tequila allegedly was found in his car," the statement says.

He was released on Friday on his own recognizance, with an arraignment set for September 28 in Malibu, Calif., Superior Court, Division 3. Gibson is looking at up to six months in jail if convicted.

Poor guy. And, as if endangering the public, threatening police and spreading anti-semistism weren't enough for one week, Gibson is now being accused of homophobia as well. According to MSNBC, the actor made several anti-gay comments during a 1992 interview.

When Spanish newspaper El Pais asked Gibson about homosexuals in 1992, he reportedly shot back: "They take it up the a$$"."

Then, pointing at his rear end, he said, "This is only for taking a sh!t."

Classy. To make matters worse, Gibson then told the reporter that he was once worried that if he became an actor, people would think he was gay.

"But with this look, who's going to think I'm gay? It would be hard to take me for someone like that. Do I sound like a homosexual? Do I talk like them? Do I move like them?" Mel asked.

After some people were offended by his comments, Playboy magazine asked the actor in a future interview if he would apologize.

"I'll apologize when hell freezes over," was his response.

And when the Washington Post asked Gibson if he was a tolerant person?

"Ahhh, I like to think I am. Perhaps I'm not," he said.

So, in summation, Mel really doesn't like gay people or Jews. All he has to do now, Us Weekly slyly notes, is go on diatribe against plastic surgery and he'll officially have alienated everyone in Hollywood. Go for it, Mel! Why stop now?
